Tamil Nadu is the eleventh largest state in India by area and the seventh most populous state. Tamil Nadu covers an area of 1,30,058 Sq.km with a population of 6,24,05,679 (As per Census-2001). The culture and heritage of Tamil Nadu is a reflection of the natural and historical process and known for its rich tradition of literature, music, and dance that continue to flourish today.
As per IDC (International Data Corporation) 2008-09 survey, Tamil Nadu is the best e-governed state in the India. Tamil Nadu has been amongst the top three States in terms of ICT investments and wants to be the ICT Hub of South Asia by creating a knowledge driven ecosystem. The Government of Tamil Nadu is taking all possible measures to spread e-Governance throughout the state, covering all the sectors with a view to providing hassle free, transparent, and efficient service to the common man (both in urban and rural areas). Some of the key e-Governance initiatives in Tamil Nadu are SARI, Tamil Nilam, Vidiyal Information Service Provider, back2school and computerized treasuries and accounting system (CTAS) etc.
