The Government of India approved the National e-Governance Plan (NeGP) to improve the delivery of Government services to citizens/businesses and other stakeholders at affordable costs and to ensure efficiency, transparency and reliability of such services. The Department of Information Technology (DIT) and the National Institute for Smart Government (NISG) support capacity building initiatives at both the Central and State Government level. Nearly 2,000 well-paid professional jobs are likely to become available in the immediate future in the private sector and in new structures such as State e-Government Mission Team (SeMT) and Project e-Government Mission Team (PeMT) for the NeGP rollout. The Central Government has already approved a policy in which Government agencies will be able to hire staff from open market at market salaries on 3-5 year contracts. In order to achieve the goals of NeGP, NISG has, as one of its initiatives, conceptualized a one-year full time residential program in e-Governance for Executives (eGPX). This program is expected to build manpower that can assume leadership roles in Private and Government organizations in conceptualizing, designing and implementing specific eGovernance projects. NISG has signed an MoU with T.A.Pai Management Institute (TAPMI), Manipal to launch the eGPX. The Graduation ceremony of the first batch of Executives under the eGovernance Program (eGPX), was held on the February 18, 2010 at TAPMI Campus, Manipal. In the first year of its launch, eGPX was rated by Outlook Business, one of the top 30 courses for Managers in India and Overseas. The launch of the program with other reputed institutes will be announced shortly. To enlarge the pool of professionals available in the country for the e-Governance domain, to be deployed by the Governments, the IT industry, the consultancy firms and the academic world. Acquire a holistic understanding of designing an e-Government project. o Learn to define the services and service levels of the project and a business model to balance costs and benefits. Acquire adequate skills in the analysis, design, and implementation of an e-Government application. o Learn to re-engineer government processes, design procedures to support efficiency, convenience and transparency. o Effectively monitor eGov projects during their lifecycle. Get exposed to the current trends in hardware, software, communications & networks. o To acquire a variety of skill sets for taking effective techno-commercial decisions. o To procure cost-effective technologies and o To interact meaningfully with vendors, bidders and agencies Implementing e-gov projects. Appreciate and acquire the skills for change management and leadership.
Bright young executives from private sector companies in management/IT consulting, technology vendors, software developers/Technical background professionals who aspire to move to leadership and managerial positions within eGovernance practice group of such companies. Candidates may be able to seek sponsorship from their companies after selection. Bright young administrators in Government departments and IT organizations within the Government. Deserving candidates from Government service may be eligible for subsidies that could be provided by DIT, Govt. of India.

Pedagogy
Classroom sessions, case study field visits/discussions, group assignments and discussions, presentations, internship with industry/government working on e-Governance projects in India. Internship opportunity will enable the participants to work on live projects and explore future career prospects. The Faculty The program is intended to be developed and taught by a core faculty of reputed institutes who are skilled educators. Experienced e-Governance practitioners, consultants and academicians will be involved in the delivery of various modules of the program, to create new knowledge and enduring concepts that shape the practice of management. The result is a teaching team that exposes participants to multiple perspectives, challenging their thinking at various levels.
Admission Eligibility and Process Qualification: A bachelor's degree in any discipline with 50% marks. Professional Experience: A minimum of 5 years of managerial/administrative experience in Government/Private/NGO/Public sector organization. Shortlisting Process: Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their past academic performance, nature and years of experience and the quality of essays submitted as part of the application. Batch Size : 40 Candidates per Institute Launch Date: Second batch of eGPX (in TAPMI) likely to be started in June, 2010.
Program fees The program fee is around Rs 5.25 lakhs and it covers tuition fee, resource material, accommodation, food and study tour.
